Man charged with murder a week after a body was found in east Charlotte
A man was charged Thursday in connection with the death of a man whose body was found last week in east Charlotte.
Police were called to the 1900 block of Milton Road on June 21, after a jogger found 51-year-old Jose Mario Chicas' body. A medic pronounced Chicas dead at the scene.
Jessie Daniel Benton, 29, was identified as a suspect and arrested Thursday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced.
Police didn't say what led to Benton being identified as a suspect in Chicas' death.
Benton faces a charge of murder. Officials also accused him of armed robbery of Chicas, police said.
Benton has prior convictions for larceny and breaking and entering, Mecklenburg County Court records show.
