Twice in eight months, Charlotte man leads police on I-85 chase, fails to escape
For the second time in less than a year, a Charlotte man led police on an Interstate 85 chase that would end in his arrest.
Jadarius Marticee McCullough was arrested Monday by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office for leading officers on a chase while driving a 2008 BMW on northbound I-85. The car had a fake South Carolina temporary tag, police said.
Eight months ago, he was arrested for a similar offense, according to arrest records. He was allegedly speeding and driving a stolen Dodge Charger with a fake South Carolina temporary tag, that time on southbound I-85.
When McCullough was arrested Monday, he was wanted for violating his probation for the Oct. 21 incident, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
McCullough got off the interstate after he was seen by members of the sheriff’s office on I-85, the release states.
He allegedly led officers on a chase in East Spencer, driving through a yard and hitting a mailbox on Robinson Road, according to the sheriff's office.
He eventually got out of his car carrying a handgun, the release states.
Officers detained McCullough's passenger and searched for the suspect for more than an hour, eventually finding him between the railroad tracks and Lexington Avenue in Spencer.
Officers found some marijuana that had been thrown from the car, but did not recover a gun, the report states.
According to court records, McCullough has been arrested on several occasions, for offenses including felony marijuana possession, shoplifting, driving with a suspended license and speeding.
He was charged Monday with felony fleeing to elude; carrying a concealed weapon; reckless driving; resist, obstruct and delay a public officer; and speeding while attempting to elude. His bond is set at $10,000.
Officers from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Spencer Police Department, Salisbury Police Department, and East Spencer Police Department were involved in the chase and search.
