Her infant son was hospitalized for 'brain bleed' in Charlotte. Now she faces charges.
A Gaston County mother is facing child abuse allegations after her infant son was hospitalized in Charlotte months ago for brain bleeding and hemorrhaging.
Keyeira Harrison, the 30-year-old mother, is facing both felony and misdemeanor child abuse charges, according to the Gaston County Jail. She was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
Harrison’s 8-month-old son was admitted to Levine Children’s Hospital for a week in January with “non accidental brain bleed” and hemorrhaging, according to the Gaston Gazette.
The child was malnourished because he was being fed a mixture of cows milk and water, instead of actual baby formula, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the newspaper.
Hospital staff told police after they suspected the infant’s injuries were the result of abuse, Observer news partner WBTV reported.
Harrison was booked into jail Monday. Officials didn’t provide details on the conditions of her son.
