Hispanic neighborhood was targeted by robbers. Charlotte police made an arrest, cops say

A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection to at least one robbery that took place last week in a predominately Hispanic neighborhood in east Charlotte.

Kareem Loving, of Charlotte, faces a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon, jail records show.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Lieutenant Brad Koch announced Loving’s arrest Tuesday afternoon using Facebook Live.

“I hope you (all) can sleep well,” he said, addressing the community in the video. “Hopefully we can provide some comfort.”

The east Charlotte neighborhood between Central Avenue and North Sharon Amity Road was rocked recently by a string of robberies that took place over a 48-hour period.

Seven Latino men were robbed between July 8 and July 10, police said. Officials believed the robberies were related.

In addition to robbery with a dangerous weapon, Loving faces charges of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, and conspiracy to rob with a dangerous weapon, according to jail records.

He has a prior arrest in Mecklenburg County for breaking and entering and larceny, jail records show.

Details on the remaining cases or additional suspects weren’t available.
