Strip club employees targeted in sexual assault, armed robbery this month, police say

One female employee at a southwest Charlotte strip club was sexually assaulted and another was robbed after leaving work this month, and the cases may be related, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Wednesday.

CMPD Lt. Muriel Hughes would not specify the women’s jobs at the club.

“We don’t really care what their job description is. Our main concern is that they’re victims,” Hughes said.

Hughes said it’s hard to say if the women were identified as potential victims while they were working at the club or if they were spotted as they left work.

The sexual assault case happened Wednesday morning, Hughes said.

A woman left work at Club Onyx and went home, and she heard voices outside her front door.

She went to the door and saw two black men wearing dark clothes with bandanas covering their faces, Hughes said.

Both men turned out to have guns, Hughes said, and they forced their way into the house. They sexually assaulted the Club Onyx employee, stole items and forced another woman to stay in a bedroom, Hughes said.

Those men were about 5-foot-10 and skinny, she said.

In the earlier case, on July 14, the victim left Club Onyx and drove toward a friend’s house when she noticed she was being followed, Hughes said.

She tried to turn her car around at an apartment complex several miles from the club, but a man walked up with a handgun and stole some of her belongings, according to Hughes and a CMPD news release. He got into a car that was being driven by someone else and left, Hughes said.

In that case, the armed suspect was described as a slim black man, about 5-foot-7 and weighing not much more than 100 pounds, Hughes said.

Hughes said police are investigating whether any other cases could be related.

If you suspect you’re being followed, Hughes said, drive to a public area and call 911.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
