Woman escorts intruder out of University City apartment
A woman whose apartment was broken into in the University City area escorted the intruder out the door, dialed 911 and contacted a nearby security officer, which led to the arrest of a 19-year-old, police said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged Christopher Deon Leonard of Charlotte with first-degree burglary, attempted first-degree burglary and larceny after breaking and entering. He is free on $12,500 bail.
The break-in happened Thursday at an apartment in the 9200 block of Campus Edge Drive.
The victim told police that she awoke to find an intruder in her apartment. She confronted the suspect and escorted him out of the apartment, police said.
After the woman contacted the on-duty Delta Security officer, Delta Security officers found the suspect on the property and detained him until CMPD University City officers could assist.
