Mom claims ex shot at her in elementary school parking lot, forcing lockdown

Villa Heights Elementary School in northeast Charlotte was placed on lockdown Thursday morning after a reported shooting in the school’s parking lot.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they were called to an assault with a deadly weapon on Everett Place, the same road as the elementary school.

A mom told police she was dropping her kids off in the elementary school’s parking lot when a man she was in a previous relationship with started firing a gun at her.

Police say no one was hurt in the incident. A nearby home was hit by one the rounds.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed the lockdown around 8:30 a.m. School officials will advise when the lockdown is lifted.
