A Charlotte woman was shot and killed around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged her long-term boyfriend with murder.
Shikeither Dinetta Smith, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene on Newcastle Street, off Lasalle Street in north Charlotte, police said.
CMPD’s suspect — 34-year-old Thomas Henry McCray — was still at the scene when police arrived, according to a CMPD news release. He was arrested and charged after a police interview.
Smith is the 41st person killed in Charlotte so far this year, police said. Eight cases, including hers, are classified as domestic violence-related. In 2017, Charlotte had 85 homicides, including 24 domestic violence cases.
