Two days after 23-year-old Pedro Fabricio Diaz-Paz was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Charlotte apartment complex, authorities arrested a suspect in Virginia, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced Thursday.

Joel Miranda, 36, was arrested Wednesday with help from the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, police said.

He was interviewed by CMPD homicide detectives in Virginia and charged with murder, police said.

Miranda will be extradited to Mecklenburg County, police said, but the timeline for that is not clear.

Diaz-Paz was inside a pickup truck on Monday evening when he was shot at the apartment complex, which is near the intersection of South Boulevard and Tyvola Road, police said.
