Davidson’s investigation into social media posts is ongoing, despite ROTC tweet
Davidson College is still investigating after an activist group said it linked racist and anti-Semitic social media posts to Davidson students, a college spokesman confirmed Tuesday.
Davidson does not believe there are any credible threats to campus, spokesman Jay Pfeifer said.
That’s what college administrators have been saying since Wednesday night, shortly after the activist group began discussing the alleged connection on social media.
The students allegedly connected to the posts are not on campus, Pfeifer said.
He did not answer questions about where the students are.
Cristina Shaul, a spokeswoman for the Davidson Police Department, directed questions about the students’ location to Pfeifer. Town police helped the college with its investigation in its early days, Shaul said.
One of the Davidson students discussed by the activist group is an ROTC cadet.
On Thursday, the commander of the U.S. Army Cadet Command, Maj. Gen. John Evans, tweeted that the ROTC has determined the cadet was not responsible for the social media posts.
Evans directed the Observer to a public information officer for the Army Cadet Command, who has not answered questions from the Observer about its investigation and how it reached its conclusion that the Davidson student wasn’t involved.
Pfeifer refused to say whether the Army has been in touch with Davidson about its investigation.
