Driver charged with death by vehicle after pedestrian dies at a Charlotte hospital
A driver accused of hitting a pedestrian on Queen City Drive and then leaving the scene Nov. 14 was charged Tuesday with felony death by vehicle after the pedestrian died in the hospital, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police news release.
Michael Robert Villasenor was hit by a northbound SUV while walking north with another person on Queen City Drive at about 2 that morning, the CMPD news release said. Queen City Drive is off Billy Graham Parkway and Interstate 77.
Officers found the damaged SUV nearby in the parking lot of an Econo-Lodge Inn and Suites. Police arrested the driver, 51-year-old Robert Charles Pilot, on charges of driving while impaired and felony hit and run.
On Sunday, the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s office notified police that Villasenor died Saturday night of his injuries, according to Tuesday’s CMPD news release.
