Pastor sexually abused children in church and homes, Gaston County police say

A 61-year-old pastor in Mount Holly, North Carolina, was jailed without bail after police accused him of sexually assaulting children at his church and in homes, the Gaston County Police Department said in a news release Thursday.

Police arrested Jerry Lewis Friday, pastor of New Providence Baptist Church on Old N.C. 27, at his Gastonia home Wednesday, according to the police news release.

The pastor was charged with felony statutory sex offense, felony disseminating obscene material to a minor, four counts of felony indecent liberties with a child and two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery, jail records show.

The charges involve three children and various incidents over the past two years, The Gaston Gazette reported.
