Man killed in four-car crash Saturday night on Idlewild Road, police say
The driver of a 2002 Honda Civic was killed Saturday night in a multi-car crash on Idlewild Road, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Vongsanith Prahongchanh, 42, was driving in the left lane on Idlewild Road near Ware Road at about 10 p.m. Saturday, police said. Another car was stopped in the left lane, waiting to turn left, and Prahongchanh tried to swerve to the right to avoid it.
Instead, Prahongchanh’s Honda hit the other car, and eventually his car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Chevrolet van, police said.
The Honda spun away from the impact with the van and hit a third car, which ran off the road and into a telephone pole, police said.
Prahongchanh was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center.
No one else was seriously injured in the crash, according to CMPD. Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, investigators found.
