A crackdown by the State Highway Patrol on drunken drivers over Memorial Day Weekend led to 39 arrests of motorists on driving while impaired charges in the Charlotte area, according to figures released by the Highway Patrol on Thursday.
The 39 arrests occurred in the nine-county Highway Patrol Troop H district that includes Mecklenburg, Union, Gaston and Cleveland counties.
Troopers cited 142 motorists for seat belt violations, 15 for child restraint violations, 138 for driver’s license violations and 161 for registration violations.
Troopers in the district issued a total of 1,333 citations during the “On the Road, On the Water, Don’t Drink and Drive” campaign May 23-25.
