Homicides: 3 people shot and killed in 3 days in Charlotte area, police say

Three men were shot and killed in the Charlotte area in less than 48 hours this weekend, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

The first man, 21-year-old Robert Demarcus McManus, was shot Friday night in north Charlotte. Police said McManus jumped on a car and smashed its window before the car’s driver shot him. The District Attorney’s office will determine whether the driver will be charged.

The weekend’s second homicide took place near the border of Charlotte and Mint Hill Saturday afternoon, CMPD said.

The Mint Hill Police Department is now investigating the shooting on Margaret Wallace Road in Mint Hill, where a male victim was shot while riding in an SUV, according to CMPD. His name has not been released.

From Margaret Wallace Road, the SUV’s driver took the victim to Bathurst Drive in Charlotte, less than a mile away, according to CMPD. The SUV ran into a parked car, and CMPD officers found the victim there. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Early Sunday morning, a third man was shot, according to CMPD.

Ernest Kenneth Stewart, 28, was shot in a parking lot on Minuet Lane in southwest Charlotte, police said. He was taken to another parking lot nearby, on Seventy Seven Center Drive, and police found him there around 1:30 a.m., according to CMPD.

Stewart was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call police at 704-432-8477 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
