Man charged in Kings Mountain double shooting

A 36-year-old man has been charged in the shootings of two men in Kings Mountain late Wednesday, according to police.

At about 10 p.m., Kings Mountain police officers were sent to a home on West Gold Street after receiving word of a shooting, according to a news release. When they arrived, police found two men with gunshot wounds.

The victims were taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center. WBTV, the Observer’s news partner, reported that relatives say one of the victims has died, while another is in the intensive care unit.

Police have accused James Travis Ussery, 36, in connection with the shootings and charged him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.

By Thursday morning, Ussery was being held at the Cleveland County law enforcement center on $100,000 bail. Police continue to investigate the shootings but ask anyone with information to contact the Kings Mountain Police Department at 704-734-0444.
