A Monroe-area couple face drug trafficking and crystal methamphetamine manufacturing charges after a raid of their home turned up drugs, guns and money.

James Ronald Helms and Michelle Stilwell Helms were taken into custody Thursday without incident following the raid on their home in the 800 block of Rocky River Road North, officials with the Union County Sheriff’s Office said.

Special response teams with the sheriff’s office and Monroe police executed the early morning search warrant following a joint investigation.

The raid turned up 5 pounds of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $160,000, 1 pound of cocaine with a street value of $24,000, two assault rifles, 13 handguns, a bulletproof vest, ammunition and cash, authorities said.

Police K-9s were used to search the home and outbuildings.

James Helms is being held on $1.5 million bail and Michelle Helms is being held on $500,000 bail in Union County Jail.

In 2009, James Helms received probation on a drug possession charge.
