Man arrested in Concord Mills mall shooting that killed teen girl
Authorities have arrested a suspect in the Concord Mills mall shooting that killed a teenage girl Saturday, according to Concord Police.
Dontae Laquavious Milton-Black, 18, was arrested around 7 a.m. Wednesday by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Milton-Black, of Charlotte, was charged with one count each of first-degree murder and felony riot. He was booked into the Cabarrus County jail where he is being held without bond.
Aveanna Propst, 13, was killed and two teen boys were injured in the shooting after a fight broke out at the mall near the entrance to Dave & Buster’s, police said.
Concord police said Wednesday that Aveanna and the two injured teens were not involved in the altercation and were not the intended targets. The incident is not connected to a shooting earlier Saturday in Concord that killed Aveanna’s cousin, 31-year-old Derron Jordan, police said.
A young man in a red and white checkered sweatshirt shown in photos widely circulated on social media was not involved in the incident, police also said.
Visitation and funeral services for Aveanna will begin 1 p.m. Saturday at Barber-Scotia College, according to an obituary from Lamb Funeral Home.
The obituary says the teen, known as “Ave” by family and friends, loved to sing and dance, cheerleading and basketball. The eighth grader at A.C.E. Academy Charter School in Harrisburg “was very outspoken and had a personality that would light up a room,” the notice read.
