Drug deal led to shooting in Charlotte apartment, CMPD says. Police arrest 3 teens
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested three teens accused of robbing and shooting another teenager during a suspected “drug transaction.”
On Saturday afternoon, officers responded to a report of a shooting near the 800 block of Scaleybark Road. Police discovered a 17-year-old inside an apartment who “had been struck in the head by a blunt object and was also shot in the shoulder,” according to a news release Monday from CMPD.
The teen was taken to a hospital. Police used GPS-tracking from an electronic monitoring device, sometimes referred to as an ankle bracelet, to find one of the suspects who has been charged.
Amed Lino, 19, was arrested by CMPD after officers stopped a car he was riding in on South Tryon Street, police say. Lino initially ran from officers but he was arrested soon after, according to police.
There were two other people in the car and officers say they found narcotics, cash and a stolen firearm inside.
Lino has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession with the intent to sale/deliver marijuana, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and resist/delay/obstruct a law enforcement officer, according to CMPD.
Jose Reyes, 19, and a 17-year-old, who is being tried as a juvenile and whose name was not released, were also arrested in connection with the robbery inside the apartment, officials said in a news release.
