The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that involved two groups of people and private security officers at a gas station on Monday night.

Police said that after speaking to witnesses, a preliminary investigation indicated that a shooting occurred between two groups in the parking lot of the BP gas station on Ashley Drive around 11 p.m. While the shooting was taking place, two Allied “Special Police officers” pulled into the gas station to get fuel, saw the shooting and then fired their weapons, police said.

The two groups then fled “at a high rate of speed,” officials said.

“A short time later, a member of one of the groups was located injured from an apparent gunshot wound near the 2900 block of Marlowe Avenue.”

The injured man was taken to the hospital by Medic for “serious injuries,” police said.

Neither Allied officer was injured.

An investigation is ongoing. Authorities ask that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
