CMPD investigating 2 separate killings in northwest Charlotte
Detectives are investigating the deaths of two people killed Friday night in north Charlotte homes, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Saturday.
Police responded less than an hour apart to the residences, where they found the bodies of a 49-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man. The killings do not appear to be connected.
Cashona Tate, whose birthday is Sunday, was pronounced dead at an apartment in the 300 block of Hoskins Mill Lane in the Thomasboro-Hoskins neighborhood northwest of Charlotte shortly after 8:45 p.m., according to a news release.
Freedom Division patrol officers were responding to a welfare check at the time.
CMPD released the victim’s name on Saturday after her family had been notified. The cause of death was not listed.
At 9:38 p.m., North Division patrol officers responded to an attempted suicide call at a home roughly eight miles away in the 8700 block of Viceregal Court, just down the road from Northlake Mall.
Paul Harris Balshem was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was murdered and did not commit suicide,” CMPD said in a news release Saturday. “It has been determined that the victim was stabbed multiple times during the assault.”
Both homicides remain under investigation.
