1 dead, 1 injured in north Charlotte shooting, police say

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after one person was shot and killed and injured in the Druid Hills South area.

At about 11 a.m. Sunday, police responded to an assault with deadly weapon call in the 1100 block of Mona Drive, according to a press release.

Officers found a man, identified as 33-year-old Christopher Demarcus Washington, inside the north Charlotte home with a gunshot wound, police said. Demarcus was transported by Medic to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to CMPD.

Minutes later, another gunshot victim arrived at Atrium Health-Carolinas Medical Center, police said.

“Early evidence suggests that this victim was also shot on Mona Drive.”

That person’s injuries were non-life threatening.

The investigation is ongoing. No further details were available.
