Police investigate drawing of noose on advertisement outside NC bank

Police officers are investigating racist vandalism in which a noose was drawn around the neck of a Black woman pictured in an advertisement outside a bank in Belmont, N.C.

According to a news release sent Wednesday, officers were alerted to the drawing that morning. Belmont Police officials say the vandalized advertisement was located outside a BB&T bank branch at 601 Hawley Avenue. By the time officers arrived, the noose had been “drawn over and covered with a heart,” the release states.

Police said they will review video footage of the incident from the bank.

Anyone with additional information should contact the Belmont Police Department at 704-825-3792.

Belmont is located in Gaston County, about 30 minutes west of Charlotte.
