Man shot, killed in east Charlotte, CMPD says. Homicide investigation underway.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers are investigating the shooting death of a man found on East WT Harris Boulevard near Albemarle Road on Monday morning.
The victim was identified as 52-year-old Jessie James Hurley, according to CMPD.
Police said they responded to reports of someone who was fatally shot around 11:30 a.m. in the 8800 block of E. WT Harris Blvd. CMPD officials said in a news release Monday a homicide investigation is underway.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on July 6, 2020, officers responded to reports of someone who was shot near the 8800 block of East W T Harris Boulevard. The man died at the scene, police said.
According to Observer news partner WBTV, more than ten officers were on scene near a strip of businesses on the nearby Lawyers Road.
CMPD announced July 8 that 23-year-old Emmanuel Desmond Collins has been charged with the murder of Hurley.
The homicide marks Charlotte’s 55th of the year. The city has kept pace with last year’s homicide rate, which was the deadliest year in a decade. This time last year, there had also been 55 murders.
