Police find one man killed by gunfire, another wounded on West Boulevard

One man died after a shooting Tuesday afternoon in the 1700 block of West Boulevard, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers are investigating it as a homicide.

The victim was identified Wednesday morning as Tykari Brown, 23, CMPD said.

Officers responding to a 911 call around 2:20 p.m. and found a man who had been shot in the leg and a second man with a gunshot wound who was inside a vehicle, police said. The first man was taken to the hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.

“Officers and MEDIC attempted life saving measures including CPR but were unsuccessful. This victim was pronounced deceased at the scene,” CMPD said in a release.

The shooting occurred near an apartment complex in the area, according to Observer news partner WBTV.

Police have not indicated whether any arrests have been made.

The death is Charlotte’s 65th homicide in 2020. This time last year — the deadliest year for murders in a decade — the city had 59 homicides.

Police encourage anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
