Man shot to death near Mint Hill on Thursday. Suspect charged with murder.
A 48 year-old man died after being shot Thursday morning, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. A suspect at the scene has been taken into custody, officials said.
The death marks Charlotte’s 67th homicide of the year. This time last year, which was the worst year for murders in a decade, Charlotte had 59 homicides.
In the latest case, police said they responded to a 911 call around 7:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of McGregor Drive near Mint Hill and found Michael James Deseve with a gunshot wound.
“While securing the scene, officers located a suspect seated within several feet of a firearm and were able to de-escalate the situation and take the suspect into custody,” police said.
On Thursday afternoon, police said they have charged 36-year-old John Michael Odea with murder.
Police are not looking for any additional suspects.
