Mooresville police on domestic call shoot and kill 1 person Monday. SBI to investigate

One person died following a police shooting in Mooresville during a domestic call, police spokeswoman Kim Sellers said Monday.

The person who died was not an officer, she said.

Sellers said police officers responded to “a domestic incident where an assault was reported.”

According to Observer news partner WBTV, the shooting occurred Monday around 4:15 a.m. on Heritage Place off South Magnolia Street. The State Bureau of Investigation was at the scene, according to WBTV.

Following procedure for police shootings, the SBI will be handling the investigation, Sellers said.

The identity of the person who was shot and killed has not been released. Police also have not identified the officer who fired the shot.
