Snyder’s-Lance employee killed by delivery truck near company loading dock, CMPD says

A Synder’s-Lance employee died late Thursday after being hit by a company truck near the snack food company’s loading dock in south Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

The incident happened around 10:51 p.m., and the victim was identified as Robert Sledzewski, 56, CMPD said.

Sledzewski was walking through “a poorly lit” area near the loading docks when he was struck, investigators said in a release. The driver of the truck was identified as Snyder’s-Lance employee Patrick O’Bryant, officials said.

“A 2015 Autocar XSpotter was ... entering the loading dock area to retrieve a trailer. At the same time, the victim, Robert Sledzewski, had ended his shift and was walking to his vehicle,” police said in the release.

“As O’Bryant turned into the loading dock area, he did not see Sledzewski and struck him with the front of the vehicle,” officials said.

Speed and impairment were not factors and O’Bryant is not facing charges, the release said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was contacted “due to this case being a workplace fatality,” CMPD said.
