One person is dead and another is injured after a shooting near an Airbnb rental pool party in Union County, authorities say.

Officers responded around 2 a.m. Sunday to reports of multiple gunshots at a pool party near Idlewild Road.

One male victim was privately transported to Novant Matthews and was pronounced dead. The second male victim was taken by ambulance to Atrium Main where he is being treated. Officials say his condition is unknown. Both unidentified victims suffered gunshot wounds.

Detectives, CSI, and SBI are actively investigating the shooting. Preliminary findings show a large number of people were attending a party at the property, which had been rented for two days through Airbnb. The shooting took place on the private road leading to the property from Idlewild Road.

Airbnb announced last week that parties are prohibited on its properties.

There are no suspects at this time. However, the Union County Sheriff’s Office said it does not appear to be a random event.
