Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are warning of online ticket scammers, after investigating reports from residents who purchased what turned out to be counterfeit concert tickets on Craigslist and other Internet sites.
“Internet transactions are extremely difficult to identify the suspect, since there is no face-to-face interaction and all information posted on the suspected website could be false and in another city and or state,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Officer Keith Trietley said Tuesday.
He said prosecution is less likely because of a lack of proof the seller knew the tickets were counterfeit or because the seller was hired by someone else, Trietley said.
Buyers should be just as wary of scalpers near an event location, police said.

Have the scalper accompany you to the ticket booth to have the ticket verified by event staff, police said.
