A Rowan County couple was arrested after troopers in a State Highway Patrol helicopter spotted marijuana plants in a backyard in the 200 block of Yost Farm Road in Granite Quarry, sheriff’s investigators said.

While waiting for patrol cars to arrive Sunday, troopers in the air saw a man and a woman removing the plants, the sheriff’s office said.

Executing a search warrant of the home, investigators said they found potting soil and flower pots on the floor of the kitchen, along with marijuana leaves. Marijuana plants were sticking out of the kitchen sink garbage disposal, officers said.

Thirty-two plants were recovered from the home and grounds, investigators said.

Charles Devon Purser, 44, and Melanie Martin Purser, 43, were each charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; felony maintaining a dwelling for the manufacture, sale and delivery of marijuana; simple possession of marijuana; and simple possession of drug paraphernalia.

Each was jailed on $10,000 bail.
