Mother charged in crash that killed 3-year-old son to appear in court

A mother charged in an accident that killed her 3-year-old son and injured her 7-year-old is expected to appear in court Tuesday.

Chantee Tranise Boyd, 26, was reportedly speeding in a Honda Accord on Billy Graham Parkway with her two children in the car around 12:20 a.m. Sunday. Boyd lost control of the car and drove off the left side of the southbound lane into the median, according to police. She is charged with felony death by vehicle, felony serious injury, two counts of felony child abuse, reckless driving and driving while impaired.

Police say the vehicle spun and hit a guardrail in the median before continuing into northbound lanes of the road where the rear of her Accord hit a Lincoln Continental.

The Honda finally stopped on the right shoulder of the northbound lanes of Billy Graham Parkway, not far from the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

When Medic arrived, they reportedly pronounced the 3-year-old boy dead on scene. The 7-year-old boy was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries. The two drivers in the crash were also taken to CMC-Main with minor injuries, according to police.

Boyd was being held in the Mecklenburg County jail under a $505,000 bond.
