1 dead, 1 wounded in north Charlotte, not far from site of triple shooting on Sunday

For the second time this week, someone has been killed not far from Sugar Creek Community Park in north Charlotte, police said late Tuesday.

In the latest incident, one person was fatally shot and another was wounded, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a news release.

The victim who died was identified as Jyasin Kasion Dearmon, 20, CMPD said in an update.

Investigators have charged four people in connection with his death, including one suspect who is 17.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of W. Sugar Creek Road, which is south of Sugar Creek Community Park, police said.

“When officers arrived, they located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds,” CMPD said in the release.

Dearmon was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A suspect in his death, 22-year-old Jawonn Mcllwain, was arrested during a traffic stop at 3 a.m. Wednesday, police said. He is charged with murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiring to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon, CMPD said.

Three additional suspects were charged with murder on Jan. 29, including Tiberius Rashayn Lee, 18, Emanuel Cuffie, 20, and a 17 year old who was not identified. The three were also charged with with conspire to commit robbery with dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with dangerous weapon, CMPD said.

On Sunday, Jan. 24, one person was killed and two others wounded in the 4000 block of Merlane Drive, which is on the northern border of Sugar Creek Community Park. The park is off West Sugar Creek Road, south of Interstate 85.

The person who died was identified as Jamias Lowon Shropshire, CMPD said. The identities of the two wounded people have not been released. Both had non-life threatening injuries, police said. Police have not said how the three shootings occurred and if there is a suspect in the case.
