One person was shot and killed in Davidson Tuesday night, according to paramedics – the town’s second homicide in a decade.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. in the 400 block of Jetton Street, near the Davidson-Cornelius Day Care Center.
Officers have not released the name of the person who was killed, and it was unclear if a suspect was taken into custody.
WBTV, the Observer’s news partner, reported that officers from Huntersville, Davidson and Cornelius were on the scene, which was roped off with police tape. Several people at the scene were crying and yelling, according to the news station.
Homicides are rare in Davidson, the northernmost town in Mecklenburg county. It has a population of under 12,000 people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Davidson’s last reported homicide was last July. Before that the town hadn’t had a homicide in a decade.
