CMPD looking for person who fired shots into schoolbus near Olympic High

Police are trying to figure out who fired two gunshots into a schoolbus loaded with children in southwest Charlotte Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 2 p.m. at Olympic High School on Sandy Porter Road.

A bus driver told police officers he had left Olympic High School and was en route to drop off students at West Mecklenburg High when he heard shots near Sandy Porter Road and West Arrowood Road.

The driver continued to West Meck and dropped the students off. The students and the bus driver weren’t injured.

The driver returned to Olympic High and called police saying he had located two bullet holes in the bus.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are working with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools police to identify the person responsible. Police encourage anyone with information about the incident to call 704-432-TIPS (8477) to speak with a detective. Tipsters can call call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
