SC man accused of luring Charlotte teen to SUV then exposing himself arrested, CMPD says

A South Carolina man suspected of driving around a Charlotte neighborhood then exposing himself to a teenage girl and making inappropriate comments to minors, was arrested in Rock Hill on Tuesday, police said.

Ronald Michael McLean Sr. of Clover, 71, approached a 13-year-old girl in his Chevrolet Equinox on Aug. 18, exposed his penis and began to masturbate, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report.

McLean is charged with felony indecent exposure and indecent liberties with a child, CMPD said. He is in custody of the York County Sheriff’s Office while awaiting extradition to Mecklenburg County.

In September, the Observer reported a naked man had attempted to lure two teenage girls in Charlotte to a grayish-blue Equinox with a South Carolina license plate in the 2100 block of Bay Street. Concerned residents posted in the Nextdoor app’s Myers Park East neighborhood group about a man approaching a teenager on Sept. 6.

In a Nextdoor post last month, CMPD community coordinator Peter Grant asked residents “to be on the lookout” for the an older white male with gray hair and a gray scruffy beard.

It’s not clear if McLean is suspected of similar actions in other Charlotte neighborhoods.
