A vehicle that had been sought in a shooting incident involving a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer at a south Charlotte hotel was found, authorities said.

Police on Thursday did not specify where the car was discovered.

On Wednesday, an officer shot in the direction of a suspect after the driver tried running over the cop with the stolen vehicle, police said.

No one was apparently hit by gunfire, according to police. They also did not say how many shots were fired by the officer.

Authorities first began tweeting about the incident around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

CMPD officers had been looking for a gray Ford Fusion that was stolen off Farmhurts Drive. They found a car that matched the description of the victim’s vehicle at an America’s Best Inn near the 7900 block of Nations Ford Road, CMPD said in a news release.

An officer matched the VIN on the Ford, while other officers went to go speak to the two people inside of the vehicle, police said. When the officers approached, the passenger in the car ran and left the scene, according to police.

The driver of the car tried running over one of the officers after police attempted to detain them, according to CMPD. That officer “perceived a lethal threat and then discharged his firearm toward the driver,” who then drove off, police said.

Police said they are still looking for the suspect and that they believe no one was hit by the gunfire.

And CMPD has not yet identified the officer who fired the weapon.

This is not a State Bureau of Investigation led investigation because no one was shot by an officer, police said.

The public can leave information anonymously about the incident by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.
