18-year-old north Charlotte shooting victim dies at hospital in city’s 32nd homicide

An 18-year-old who was shot in north Charlotte on Saturday has died at a hospital in the city’s latest homicide, police said Tuesday.

The victim, Kashawn Johnson, died Sunday at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.

Police on Sunday, Aug. 14, said two people had been arrested and charged in connection with Johnson’s killing.

Just after 6 p.m. Saturday, a 911 caller reported the shooting in the 4700 block of Beech Crest Place, police said. Johnson was transported to a local hospital where he later died, CMPD said.

Johnson is the city’s 32nd homicide victim this year.

A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested on May 23 and charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery, according to an Aug. 14 CMPD news release.

On Aug. 12, detectives arrested 20-year-old Desmond Dailey on outstanding warrants. He also was arrested for murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
