Second arrest made in connection with fatal shooting in University City, CMPD says

A homicide victim managed to get as far as the emergency room entrance before dying from a gunshot wound, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The victim was identified as Dymonte Latrell Hall, 24, CMPD said.

It happened around 9 p.m. July 27, at Atrium Health University City in northeast Charlotte.

“Officers responded to Atrium University in reference to a subject who arrived with a gunshot wound,” CMPD said in a news release.

“The victim was pronounced deceased at the entrance to the Emergency Room.”

Homicide Unit detectives have determined the shooting took place in 10000 block of John Adams Drive in the University City area. The street is near the intersection of Interstate 85 and West Mallard Creek Church Road.

There had been at least 67 homicides in the city at the time of the incident, according to an unofficial Charlotte Observer count.

CMPD, in an Aug. 22 statement, said Rashad Lamar Elliott, 34, had been arrested and “charged with 1st Degree Murder, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon” in the case.

A second suspect turned himself into police on Sept. 8. Dallas Brand Jr., 38, is charged with first degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to a CMPD news release.

“The investigation into this case is active and ongoing,” CMPD’s statement said.
