1 person dead, another injured in southwest Charlotte shooting, police say

One person was killed and another seriously injured in what appeared to be a “drug-related” shooting in southwest Charlotte on Tuesday night, police said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers found two men with gunshot wounds after responding to an assault call just before 8 p.m. in the 4500 block of Rose Ridge Place, Maj. Dave Robinson told reporters at the scene, according to WBTV video. That’s in the Pressley Ridge Apartments community, near Pressley Road Park.
The deceased victim was found near a vehicle, Robinson said. Medic took the second victim to a hospital, where he is in “highly critical” condition, the major said.
The shooting “does appear to be drug related” based on evidence found, Robinson said.
The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Joe Bay Galicia, police said in an update on Sept. 1.

At least 77 homicides have been reported in Charlotte this year, according to CMPD data. An unofficial count by The Charlotte Observer now shows 83 homicides.
