Police identify victims who died less than 24 hours apart in separate Charlotte shootings

Police are investigating two homicides that happened less than 24 hours apart in Charlotte.
Just before midnight on Thursday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police found a man dead of a gunshot wound in the 12400 block of South Tryon Street in the Steele Creek area.
The victim was identified as 29-year-old Eric Behrends, CMPD said in a news release on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
No details about what led to Behrends’ death have been release.
Another homicide was reported Friday just after 2 p.m. in the 6400 block of Albemarle Road in east Charlotte, according to a CMPD news release.
One person was found fatally shot at the scene, according to Medic. Police on Tuesday, Sept. 27, identified him as 31-year-old Tahiti Henderson.
When officers arrived, they found an armed man. Police “de-escalated the situation” and took him into custody, according to the release.
Johnny Warren, 45, was charged with murder, CMPD said in a news release on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
A Charlotte Observer reporter saw yellow police tape around Giveaway Arcade next to an ABC liquor store on Albemarle, just east of Farm Pond Lane.
CMPD have not released details about what led to the shooting.

Homicides in Charlotte
Before the two deaths, Charlotte had seen just one homicide in September, a CMPD database shows. A 28-year-old man was found dead on Sept. 5 in the 6200 block of West Sugar Creek Road, the Observer previously reported.
There have been at least 80 homicides in Charlotte this year compared with 66 at this point in 2021, according to CMPD data.
An Observer database now shows 85 homicides in 2022.
A gathering is planned for Friday, Sept. 23, to commemorate National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.
CMPD’s Victim Services unit will host the event at the Freedom Division station, 4150 Wilkinson Blvd., at 6:30 p.m.
