A death investigation is underway in southwest Charlotte after a body was found in the woods.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives responded Thursday to Diamond Creek Circle, across the street from Whitehall Commons, in the Steele Creek area. The address police gave is an apartment complex with woods nearby, backing up to Interstate 485 and a neighboring business park.

CMPD sent an alert about the investigation just before 5:40 p.m. A police report from the case shows the body was found shortly after noon.

The identity of the victim and the circumstances surrounding the death have not been publicly released.
