One dead after a shooting early Sunday in southwest Charlotte, CMPD says

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a weekend shooting that left one person dead, the department said in a statement Sunday.

Police responded to the 7900 block of Shady Oak Trail in the Starmount Forest neighborhood about 2 a.m. Sunday, CMPD said, after reports of “multiple shots fired” and found a person with a gunshot wound. The person was taken to a hospital and died there, according to CMPD.

No other details were immediately available from authorities.

The investigation is ongoing, CMPD said.

This marks Charlotte’s 89th homicide this year, according to a CMPD database. Observer data show it’s the 91st.
