A motorist whose vehicle pinned and injured a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer in the Arboretum Shopping Center in November has been sentenced to at least 18 years and three months in prison.

Terry Dennis, 36, of Fort Mill, S.C., was among 18 defendants recently convicted by the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Habitual Felon Team. Thirteen were sent to prison.

After his car struck the CMPD officer and four other vehicles in the shopping center, Dennis got out of his car and ran into the middle of Pineville-Matthews Road, prosecutors said.

When a driver stopped to avoid hitting him, Dennis stole the driver’s vehicle and hit two other cars, seriously injuring the drivers.

Dennis pleaded guilty to possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine, serious injury by motor vehicle, hit and run, larceny of a motor vehicle, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and being a habitual felon.
