Police dog finds heroin in Salisbury man’s home

A drug-sniffing dog found a large stash of heroin this week in a Salisbury home, and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for the man who used to live there.

The warrant charges Julian Lepe Garcia, 35, with various heroin-related offenses. Garcia is already in the Mecklenburg County jail on related charges, investigators said.

The police dog on Monday found a PVC pipe buried in the ground at the right rear corner of the home in which Garcia lived in the 900 block of North Jackson Street, investigators said.

The pipe contained coffee grounds and about 530 grams of black tar heroin valued at about $70,000, the sheriff’s office said.

In the home, investigators said they found a balloon of heroin as well as drug records and drug paraphernalia used in the distribution of heroin.
