Gastonia motorcycle crash flipped Mini Cooper, left motorist dead, police said
One person is dead following a motorcycle crash Thursday afternoon, according to the Gastonia Police Department.
Alejandro Acosta, 23, was going between 90 to 100 mph in a 35 mph zone when his motorcycle crashed into a Mini Cooper and turned it on its roof, according to a GPD press release.
Police declared Acosta dead at the scene near Franklin Boulevard and Chestnut Street at about 1 p.m. Paramedics took the Mini Cooper’s 73-year-old driver to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
The intersection at Franklin Boulevard and South Avon Street, near Tony’s Ice Cream, was closed for the afternoon. Police advised drivers to seek alternate routes or heed traffic directions near the accident.
The crash is under investigation.
