Shooting near Charlotte school leaves one dead, suspect remains at large

Police identified the man who died in a shooting near a school in north Charlotte.

Carl George Brown, 54, was shot dead along Julia Avenue — a street adjacent to J.T. Williams Secondary Montessori school — Friday morning, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release. The street is lined with several churches and apartment homes.

Police have not identified a suspect after continuing the investigation into the weekend. It is not yet clear what caused the shooting — which is now one of more than 30 homicides in Charlotte so far this year, according to CMPD.
