Late last month, Cornelius Police got a call from Social Services saying a 10-month-old had overdosed on fentanyl. The baby’s parents are now in jail.

The father, Richard Stark, 21, and mother, Jasmin Naveda, 19, are each charged with two counts of felony child abuse and one count of misdemeanor child abuse, according to police.

Court records show that in June, Naveda was charged with felony possession of a schedule II substance but this charge was dismissed by the District Attorney’s Office.

Stark and Naveda were both still in custody at the Mecklenburg County Jail on Thursday.

Police did not say how the child is recovering.
