A Charlotte man was held for a Monday court appearance after Cary police charged him with prostituting a 17-year-old girl at a hotel near Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Leraysheo Shontel Byrd, 34, of 7253 Lake Point Drive, was arrested at the Hyatt Place at 200 Airgate Drive on Friday night.

Police said in arrest warrants that he held the girl there and was promoting prostitution of a minor.

They also accused him of holding the girl in the hotel and profiting from her earnings.

After Byrd’s arrest, police charged him with injury to property, saying he damaged a wall at the police station.

Cary police said they turned the 17-year-old over to Child Protective Services to find housing for her and determine what happens ater that.

A magistrate set Byrd’s bail at $500,000 and noted that he has traffic charges pending in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and Richmond counties.

Byrd was convicted in 2004 of robbery with a dangerous weapon in Mecklenburg County in 2002 and has convictions in Pennsylvania for an assault in 2011 and in Virginia for speeding to get away from police in 2013, North Carolina prison records show.
