A Cabarrus County Juvenile correctional facility staff member was accused of assaulting an inmate, the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office.

The office said a juvenile was assaulted on Wednesday at the Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center in Concord.

The staff member was identified by deputies as Dana Lassiter, who has worked there since 2017, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Lassiter has been charged with assault by strangulation, and was given a $5,000 bond. He was taken to the Cabarrus County jail.

Kevin Klinglesmith, the professional standards captain with the Sheriff’s Office, any incident at the facility is reported to the Department of Social Services (DSS). DSS then reports it to the Sheriff’s Office, he said, for investigation.

The investigation into this incident included surveillance that was used to help determine whether or not to pursue criminal charges, Klinglesmith told The Charlotte Observer.
